Litochoro is a semi-mountain town (altitude 300m, 6,697ft) of Pieria. Located in the southern part of the prefecture, at the eastern ends of Mount Olympus, 23 km from Katerini, it is 92 km. from Thessaloniki. The first written mention of Litochoro goes back to the first half of the 16th century, when Saint Dionysius, a companion of Saint Nicanoras of the Zavordas Monastery, visited the area and founded the homonymous monastery.
